If your application codebase is managed with Git and you don’t already have a testing branch, now is a great time to create one. This will allow you to safely test the new version of your application alongside the migrated database before merging changes into your main branch for deployment.

Step 1: Export your Old Database

Step 1: Upload Your Old database

Open the SQLCifer tool. In the first database selection field, import your old database — this should include both the structure and the data.

Step 2: Import New Database Schema

In the second database selection field of SQLCifer, import the new version of your database — only the schema (structure), without any data.

Step 3: Generate Upgrade Script

After importing the schema, click on the "Generate Upgrade Script" button. Wait while SQLCifer analyzes the databases and generates the necessary upgrade script automatically.

Step 8: Download the Upgrade Script

Once the script has been generated, you can download it for your review. Please note: refreshing the page will delete the generated script, and you’ll need to restart the process. You can only download the script once — it is automatically removed from our servers after download to conserve storage space. We do not store, transmit, or sell your data. Your information remains private and secure at all times.

Step 1: Prepare the Test Environment

Now that you have successfully generated the upgrade script, the next step is to import your old database — including its data — into your test database. This environment will be used to apply and verify the upgrade script before affecting your live system.

Step 2: Apply the Upgrade Script

After importing your old database into the test environment, the next step is to import the upgrade script generated by SQLCifer into your test database. This will apply all necessary structural updates and changes, simulating how your live database will be transformed.

Step 3: Test the Upgraded Database

Congratulations! Your database has now been fully upgraded. You can proceed to connect your application to the test database and verify that everything functions as expected. Ensure that all data has been retained and that your application works correctly with the upgraded structure before going live.
